Sir Ian McKellen will not dress up in costume and officiate your wedding

Posted By: Uni logo - 11:36:00

Officiating a wedding a serious responsibility, best left to religious officials, close friends and fictional wizards.

Sir Ian McKellen, best known for playing Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings, was offered $1.5 million to officiate Sean Parker's wedding as the wizard, The Daily Mail reports. Parker, a billionaire who founded Napster and was Facebook's first president, first made the offer three years ago.
"I was offered $1.5 million dollars to marry a very famous couple in California, which I would perhaps have considered doing, but I had to go dressed as Gandalf," McKellen told The Daily Mail. "So I said, ‘I am sorry, Gandalf doesn’t do weddings.'"
Parker's fantasy-themed wedding to singer Alexandra Lenas, which caused some expensive damage to the redwood forest in which it was held, cost approximately $1.5 million dollars. Guests at the time included Sting, Sean Lennon and Emma Watson.

Each guest was custom-fitted in a Tolkienized Lord of the Rings costumes, because nothing says eternal love like cosplay.
Who doesn't see hairy ears and subsequently think of marriage?
McKellen, an accomplished theater actor is currently starring in 'No Man's Land' in London. He made the disclosure to The Daily Mail as part of a longer conversation about costumes.
"I don’t go dressing up,” McKellen told The Daily Mail. “Except in plays and things at places like this."
Ian McKellen's net worth is estimated to be in the tens of millions — but still, an extra $1.5 million wouldn't have hurt.
Sean Parker, wherever you are — next time you need a Gandalf, there are millions of people out there who are ready to dress in costume (raises hand) and will gladly accept your monetary offer.
We won't even ask for a tip.

Minor league baseball player's windshield destroyed by his own grand slam

Posted By: Uni logo - 11:23:00

Hitting a grand slam is typically cause for celebration.

However, it was bittersweet for minor league baseball player Brandon Thomas, who hit a baseball out of the stadium and straight into the front windshield of his own car.
Thomas is an outfielder for the Gateway Grizzles, a minor league baseball team based in Sauget, Illinois, a suburb of St. Louis.
The minors may not pay as well as the majors, but Thomas doesn't seem to mind that he's responsible for repairing his own windshield.
He tweeted that it was "Definitely worth it!!" – especially because his run helped the Grizzlies beat the Joliet Slammers 17-6.
The proud ball player shared a video of his powerful and coincidental grand slam on Twitter:
Hopefully someone gave Thomas a ride home from the game.

Volkswagen accidentally drives onto the roof of a Fiat 500

Some cars have a mind all of their own.

Drivers in the West End of Glasgow, Scotland, were startled to find a Volkwagen resting atop a Fiat 500 on Sunday. The heavy car was quietly — and dangerously — suspended between between the Fiat's roof and a wall on Southpark avenue.
The Volkswagen appears to have rolled down a hill from a parked position before landing atop the Fiat
Thankfully, no one was in the car and there were no reported injuries. Motorists were even able to ogle and take awesome, Instagram-ready photos of the incident before police shut the scene down.
This accident served as a strong reminder to drivers to remember to put on their parking brake — and to always carry your phone, when accidents like these occur.
It is unclear what destination, exactly, the Volkswagen had in mind.

Sparkling new spa opens in . . . Burger King

    Burgerkingspa

They may already be king of the burgers, but now, Burger King has become king of the spa treatments as well.
A Burger King in Helsinki, Finland was tired of their restaurant's elementary aesthetic and wanted to make the atmosphere more sophisticated. But instead of adding some colorful flowers or cloth napkins, they decided to go full Helsinki, Finland. On the ground floor of the restaurant, they built a shining, questionably hygienic, 15-person sauna.
"A 15-person sauna area is perfect for a group of friends for social gatherings or work, venue for the birthday party, or even the organization of the show studio," the Burger King Finland website explains.
Mmmm. Who doesn't want to eat reheated cow sludge among strangers in a warm pool?
The restaurant also added a smaller, 10-person spa, complete with a 48-inch flat screen TV. Each room comes complete with red and blue benches, and the brand's slogan, "Home of the Whopper," displayed proudly on the wall. Customers will be able to eat and drink their favorite fats from the comfort of a warm bench.
There is one spa for every three people in Finland
Whereas other fast food restaurants are trying to modernize by offering healthier options, this Burger King chose a different route. A hot claustrophobic room full of strangers and sweet wafts of ground beef, tickling your nose.
Use of the sauna space will cost visitors 250 ($283 USD) for three hours. It may seem like a steep price, but just think of all the sweaty fries you can enjoy in that amount of time.
    Mmm mmm . . . okay.
