AMD's new SSG Technology blends an SSD with a GPU?!

Posted By: Uni logo - 00:05:00
AMD's says its Solid State Graphics Technology will empower terabytes of capacity on a design card

You can never have enough memory on an expert representation card, AMD authorities said before declaring the organization's next enormous thing at the SIGGRAPH meeting on Monday night. Utilizing what AMD named SSG Technology, or Solid State Graphics Technology, the organization will unite fast NAND memory to its forthcoming line of expert GPUs.

In doing as such, organization authorities said, it will be conceivable to associate a size more memory to a GPU than is as of now accessible. The GPU with the most memory without further ado is AMD's Radeon FirePro W9100 with 32GB of RAM.

With SSG Technology, NAND is straightforwardly associated with the GPU center, dwelling inside the design card itself.

Why this matters: "This will permit us to associate terabytes of memory to the GPU," said David Wattters, AMD's head of Industry Alliances. The implications aren't totally known, however Watters said SSG is as of now having any kind of effect in ultra-high-determination 8K video. What's more, no, 8K video isn't simply twofold that of 4K, either. A Ultra HD 4K video is around 8.3 megapixels. A 8K video is 7680x4320, or around 33 megapixels. As indicated by Watters, current GPUs can play crude 8K video at around 17fps; one with SSG can play the same video at 90+ fps.

AMD showed such a situation progressively at SIGGRAPH with one framework attempting to play crude 8K video at 17 fps. A second framework furnished with a GPU with SSG couldn't just play the same 8K video at more than 90 fps yet authorities demonstrated it "scouring" or rapidly traveling through the video as easily as somebody would alter 1080P video today.
    How it functions

AMD said that given the generally little measure of memory in a design card today, the GPU must cut up workloads and afterward deal with the converging of those unique parts. At the point when the GPU needs more work, it needs to flag the CPU, which then gets information from the bigger pool of neighborhood framework RAM or essential stockpiling. This acquires inertness.

With SSG, the CPU is circumvent completely, which extraordinarily decreases dormancy, AMD said. The organization didn't unveil excessively numerous points of interest, yet SSG gives off an impression of being founded on a standard M.2 interface utilizing PCIe.

SSG would not supplant design RAM itself, for example, GDDR5+ or HBM or HBM2, as it would be too moderate. The organization's new Polaris-based Radeon RX 480, for instance, has around 256GBps of memory data transfer capacity on tap. As well as can be expected escape a solitary M.2 interface today is 1.5GBps to 2GBps.

AMD authorities said the expansive pool of SSG memory will help constant representation undertakings furthermore change how experts work since that memory is likewise pervasive. An average top of the line CAD laborer may begin the morning by booting up their machine and stacking a model, which could take 60 minutes. SSG would take out that hold up.

Essentially, the GPU can stream 4K recordings to various screens all the while, and it will permit illustrations for VR headsets to be conveyed speedier. It could lighten a few difficulties with conveying smooth representation to VR headsets like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

The SSG memory would be dealt with as a feature of an immense pool of RAM. In the event that the GPU can't discover its information in the neighborhood GDDR5+ or HBM RAM, it would then pursuit the SSG. Simply after that would it need to approach the CPU for what it needs.

Praise to the DICE group." Additionally, Infinity Ward's chief of correspondences, Eric Monacelli, tweeted congrats to DICE and said, "Incredible tune decision, looks eminent with fascinating mechanics teased."

GameSpot went to a Battlefield 1 uncover occasion a week ago, where we found out about the amusement's multiplayer, which reemphasizes its property air-and-ocean gameplay with swords, biplanes, and war vessels.

Lead fashioner Danny Berlin likewise examined the single-player, which he says "will all the more precisely mirror Battlefield's open sandboxes" and offer "a great deal more decision and assortment than [it's] done some time recently." Talking to GamesBeat, he uncovered that the story will take after various characters including the Bedouin lady warrior from the trailer.

Obligation at hand: Infinite Warfare, then again, might be set later on, however its designer says that the story's motivation originates from war, not sci-fi. TiVo’s new Roamio OTA DVR for cord cutters has no monthly fees, more storage

Posted By: Uni logo - 12:19:00
While DVR maker TiVo has been focused on the future with the recent unveiling of its 4K-ready DVR designed for the streaming era, the company is continuing to improve its other popular device for cord cutters as well, the TiVo Roamio. This morning, TiVo announced an updated version of this product, the TiVo Roamio OTA 1TB. As the name implies, one of the biggest advantages to this new version is increased storage.
With a 1 TB hard drive, users can record up to 150 hours of high-definition programming, and up to four shows at once thanks to multiple tuners. It can pull in programs over-the-air (hence the “OTA” in its name) via an HD antenna, which means you can record from networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS and Univision, for example.
In addition, the device will allow you to watch across a number of major streaming services, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and YouTube. Plus, you can “cast” Netflix and YouTube directly from your mobile phone to the streaming device, if you choose. That means you don’t need to buy a separate dongle to take advantage of this functionality, TiVo notes.
The updated player includes TiVo’s latest software features, QuickMode and SkipMode, too. Introduced with the TiVo Bolt, the former lets you play back recordings 30 percent faster with pitch-corrected audio. This is useful for when you’re watching a video more for informational or educational purposes – like news or sports, for example. SkipMode, meanwhile, lets you bypass commercial breaks with a press of a button.
Screen Shot 2016-04-27 at 11.20.12 AM
Also available in the new Roamio are standard TiVo features like its universal search feature OneSearch, plus OnePass, which combines over-the-air broadcasts and streaming services to create universal watchlists when you subscribe to shows.
The device, like others, works with TiVo Minis if you want to watch on different TVs throughout your house, and it’s compatible with TiVo Stream, allowing you to download live and recorded shows for viewing on your iOS or Android device even when you’re out of the home.
But perhaps the most appealing feature of all, save for the upgraded storage, is how the device is being priced. Instead of requiring a monthly subscription fee, the Roamio OTA 1 GB is designed to appeal to most cost-sensitive cord cutters. Because this crowd is already beset with monthly fees to a variety of over-the-top services like Hulu and Netflix, it can sometimes be hard to ask them to make yet another ongoing commitment.
So instead, TiVo is selling the Roamio OTA 1 GB for the “all-in,” one time price of $399.99, which will include the TiVo service. While that’s not cheap by any means, people who buy TiVos tend to see it as an investment in a device they’ll use for several years to come. They often justify the price as being better than paying a monthly “rental” fee to a traditional cable TV provider for that company’s DVRs (which tend to run terrible software in comparison.)
The new TiVo Roamio OTA 1 GB will be available as of May 2nd, at Tivo.com, BestBuy.com and Amazon, as well as in Best Buy stores.
