This Facebook 911bot could save your life one day

Since Facebook rolled out chat bots in Messenger in April, programmers have created bots to deliver news on demand, provide medical advice, and request an Uber. 

Now there's a bot that one day could save your life.

The 911bot allows you to alert emergency personnel when you need help by typing in information, sharing photos, and responding to questions via Facebook Messenger. The bot was created at TechCrunch's Disrupt 2016 by Omri Klinger, Tomer Coreanu and Hadar Landao,TechCrunch reported.

After initiating the 911bot, it asks if the issue is life-threatening, and then gathers information from you about the incident with either text or a photo. It also records your location and phone number. The bot then places a phone call to emergency services for you, relaying the information via an automated voice, and connecting you to the operator.

The 911bot will also give you helpful guidance and tips related to emergencies.

While in many cases it would be easier and faster to place a call to emergency services rather than open an app and type in all your information, you could be in a situation where placing a call is not viable. For example, if you are in a dangerous situation and don't want to give away your location to a threatening person, you can relay the necessary information to 911 without making a noise. 

The 911bot is also helpful for people who have damaged speakers or microphones on their smartphones.

The team behind 911bot told Mashable that the want to integrate the bot with normal 911 calls as well. After such a call, the bot would send helpful text messages providing guidance during an emergency situation.

While the 911bot isn't available to Facebook Messenger users yet, the team behind 911bot toldMashable they plan to release it once it gets approval from Facebook.
