As if you needed more proof that we're living in a digital world where emojis have taken over the written word.
A school in Chengdu, China, has made news headlines due to one of its teachers' unique punishment for tardy students.
Students at the University of Electronic Science and Technology will now be forced to write out 1,000 emojis for every time they turn up late to class.
It's not known who's the teacher who came up with this written form of torture or what faculty or class in the school is affected.
Being made to write lines is a common punishment in schools all over the world, but having to write out emojis has got to be the first case that we've come across.

Interestingly enough, a closer look at some of the emoji homework submitted shows that the students were allowed to get creative with the type of emojis they use, as long as all 1,000 emojis differ from one another.
